What We’re Watching: Good Place “Mondays, Am I Right? and West Wing “Institutional Memory”1/21/2020
On our entertainment-themed Round 2 this week, we're charging toward the finish line with both of our shows. Our heroes are suddenly ballooning into the afterlife on The Good Place, and on The West Wing, we dive deeply and swoonily into the post-White House lives and careers of many of our faves.
Next week: "Patty" on The Good Place and "Tomorrow" on The West Wing.

When we read about the Dutch concept of niksen, or basically doing nothing, we had to talk about whether we can actually single-task, let alone zero-task.
On Speed-Round Sunday, we share a mini episode from our past for your weekend listening pleasure.
Hobbies like sewing, knitting, and crocheting theoretically have as their end product something somebody can wear. For today's question, we wanted to see if any of us are quite that industrious. Maybe our moms were, and maybe our daughters, but us? Listen and see. On Second-Listen Saturday, we share some fun moments from past episodes for your weekend listening pleasure.
Kids will never learn how to survive failure if we don't let them fail, sure, we know that, absolutely, and yet, who wants to stand back and let your kid fail? We're finding the not intervening thing to be easier said than done, but on occasion we do manage to foster a little independence and admire the power of shame. Want more? Listen to the rest of this October 2016 episode.
On this week’s Roundabout Roundup, Nicole loves the beautiful pictures of her home country at Images of Canada on Instagram. Catherine is shouting out Wisconsin Public Television's shout-out to her daughter's skating team. And Terri finally found a good vitamin source at Healthwarehouse.com.
Thanks as always to Jon Morin for our fun in-and-out music, which you hear on every episode.
Sending our kids out into the big wide world everyday is tough, especially when we know all the little things they don't quite know or aren't quite good at. So how do we do it? We'll meet you in the surveillance van. Bring some snacks.
To quote Free to Be You and Me, "Some kind of help is the kind of help we all can do without." Specifically, when we ask for help, we would like to be relieved of the mental burden of whatever it is you're helping us with. Please!
On our entertainment-themed Round 2 this week, The Good Place is back with "You've Changed, Man," which ends with yet another plan for the afterlife, as well as a jar full of marbleized Janets.
There's also plenty of planning on West Wing's "The Last Hurrah," as Arnie (or was it Ernie?) Vinick ponders his next move and the incoming Santos administration aims to fill its cabinet posts. Mentioned: Becoming by Michelle Obama. Next week: "Mondays, Am I Right?" on The Good Place and "Institutional Memory" on The West Wing.
We've all heard the buzzword, and we all know it's good for us. That doesn't make it any easier to make time for self-care--especially when our culture is all about toughing things out.
On Speed-Round Sunday, we share a mini episode from our past for your weekend listening pleasure.
Being sick is no fun, but sometimes, we wish for the ability to just put school or work on hold for 24 hours and take good care of ourselves. Sick days are few and far between for freelancers, alas, and even sparser for parents. Do you get a sick day sometimes? |
