Your road map to this week's entertainment-themed podcast: 00:54 The Big Sick: Catherine entered an actual movie theater to see this movie, which is a delightful take on the cross-cultural rom-com. 07:30 John from Cincinnati: Episodes 7 and 8 were a bit more traditional, but this series is as weird as ever. 18:26 Challenge Round: Amélie: Catherine challenged Terri to watch this film that's set halfway around the world from John's IB (in Paris) and 180 degrees different in style and tone. Terri found it twee but worth a watch. It reminded her of the TV series Pushing Daisies, so for next week's challenge, we'll watch that shows pilot ... entitled "Pie-lette" (did someone mention "twee"?). Next week, we'll also return to The West Wing with "The Black Vera Wang" and continue with the final two episodes of John from Cincinnati ("His Visit: Day Eight" and "His Visit: Day Nine"). Parallel parking used to be a thing that new drivers had to learn and old drivers took pride in. Self-parking cars haven't stopped that just yet. Theoretically, making your bed lets you start off each day with one thing accomplished, but who has time for hospital corners? 00:33 Sunrise, Sunset: School is starting, and Catherine's daughter has a strange tradition. 07:05 Triple Career Crisis: Turns out all three of us are at career crossroads, so we try to counsel each other on how to proceed. 31:10 Friday Speed Round: Who's Making Lunch? Of our six (teen and adult) kids, only about two can be trusted to feed themselves independently. 40:29 Roundabout Roundup: Terri's drinking Polar Seltzer, Catherine's learning how to de-feralize kids for school, and Nicole is looking for that new career at Indeed.com. 44:11 Shameless Self-Promotion: Terri Mauro on Parenting Special Needs on Facebook; why kids whine; menu of lesson modifications for inclusive classes. Thanks as always to Jon Morin for our fun in-and-out music. If you're reading this somewhere without hyperlinks, come to http://parentingroundabout.com for the full recap experience. |
