On our entertainment-themed Round 2 this week, "Zoey's Extraordinary Glitch" was, as predicted, that instead of hearing songs and seeing dances, Zoey was now performing them herself. So we got lots of fun dances, but the downside: No Neighbor Mo to help out, as nearly the entire episode was set at Zoey's workplace. Next: "Zoey's Extraordinary Silence."
In Neptune, Veronica Mars sorted out an awful girl-shaming situation at her school, and also took a field trip to Death Row to see the man convicted of killing her friend Lilly. He had some unrelated, and devastating, exposition to share. Next: "Drinking the Kool-Aid."

Inspired by a slippery stairs competition (that ESPN has to air because there are no other sports), we talk about what records our family is going for as we shelter in place: Most chocolate chips used, best coronavirus scurry while walking, deepest freezer dive... What events are happening at your house?
On Speed-Round Sunday, we share a mini episode from our past for your weekend listening pleasure.
Our first cars were largely large—the ones we learned to drive on, anyway. The first cars we bought were smaller, possibly explosive, and in one case not purchased until after marriage and family.
On Second-Listen Saturday, we share some fun moments from past episodes for your weekend listening pleasure.
In these social media days, it’s all too easy to get the illusion of a social life without actually, you know, leaving the house and interacting with in-person humans. We consider how much our kids’ schedules and contacts construct our social world, and whether our parents had more fun when we were growing up than we manage to have now. Want more? Listen to the rest of this February 2017 episode (obviously, recorded long before staying home became required for everyone's health and safety).
On this week’s Roundabout Roundup, stuff to do, eat, and watch while you're stuck at home. Nicole recommends paint-by-number projects, Catherine suggests Dot's Homestyle Pretzels (from North Dakota, not Maryland!), and Terri's shouting out Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show: At Home" editions. Also heartwarming: the #SunshineSongs effort from Laura Benanti on Instagram, and the similar #heyJenlookatme from Jennifer Garner.
Thanks as always to Jon Morin for our fun in-and-out music, which you hear on every episode.
Life under house arrest is hard for adults. Add little kids into the mix and the degree of difficulty goes up considerably. This is your permission slip to skip structure (and constant sanitizing) and just do what works for your family.
It's hard enough for kids to make the transition from college life back to the family home under normal circumstances. When they have to do it under the threat of COVID-19, it's an even rougher re-entry.
What We’re Watching: ZEP “Zoey’s Extraordinary Confession” and Veronica Mars “The Girl Next Door”3/24/2020
On this week's entertainment-themed Round 2: We got some heavy, heart-to-heart talks on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, but also lots of singing and dancing, up to and including an actual flash mob. Mentioned: The Good Place Podcast. Next: "Zoey's Extraordinary Glitch."
Heavy themes are par for the course on Veronica Mars, but "The Girl Next Door" (played by Jessica Chastain!) went extra far in that direction. We did appreciate the Weevil-Logan buddy comedy, though. Mentioned: Veronica Mars Investigations podcast. Next: "Like a Virgin."
We check in on life under lockdown in California, New Jersey, and the Midwest. We're united in our lack of toilet paper and our surplus of people in our space while we try to work.

Shower? Breakfast? Paper? Yelling at kids to hurry up and get ready for school? There are all sorts of ways to start your day, but it shouldn't surprise you that ours involve electronics and dogs. What do you do first thing? |
