00:32 A Major Award: Nicole's brother was nominated for an Emmy! 4:17 Ladies in Waiting: When we were handing out our own awards a few weeks ago, we should have had a category for Waiting—best wait, worst wait, longest wait. Wait here, we have more to say about this topic. 19:26 Friday Speed Round — Mom Jewelry: Turns out we're not big jewelry people, but we do each have a sentimental piece or two. 24:47 Roundabout Roundup: Terri's improving her life with Google Calendar, Nicole's watching The Handmaid's Tale, and Catherine suggests you read R. Eric Thomas (on Twitter and at Elle.com). 29:19 Interview of the Week: Terri chats with Greer Gurland, author of How to Advocate Successfully for Your Child: What Every Parent Should Know About Special Education Law, about extended school year (ESY) programs. On our Thursday Speed Round, we consider the degree to which the cool things of our youth — Walkman! Stirrup pants! The Seventies! — have not fared well with time. Your road map to this week's entertainment-themed episode: 00:40 Dancing with the Stars--Last week, we hoped we wouldn't see Julianne's top-knot again. This week, all of Julianne was missing, and we got Nick Carter as a guest judge—as well as a shocking! elimination! (Terri wasn't too shocked.) 13:27 The West Wing--"Manchester Part 2" brings the funny, which we sorely needed. Also needed was the apology the staff finally got, but that parting shot as he went to make his speech? Not so much. 21:21 Challenge Round--Terri challenged Catherine to watch the movie Juno, partly so we could see TWW's Allison Janney playing Juno's stepmom. As ever, she is delightful, and so is this movie. For next week, Catherine challenged Terri to watch the Disney XD cartoon Phineas & Ferb (available on Netflix, Disney XD, and cable on demand). She suggests these 10-minute episodes from the first season: Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror (2), Flop Starz (3), Tree to Get Ready (12), It's About Time (21), and Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together! (22). On our Tuesday Speed Round, we talked weird foods we're not afraid to say we like. Hear us justify our appreciation of rice cakes with margarine, Brussels sprouts, and Vegemite. When it comes to TV, movies, and books, do you prefer trying new things or revisiting old favorites? The sheer volume of new entertainment these days makes it tricky. (Mentioned: Round 2) We’ve been Parenting Roundabout-ing since 2013 (!), which means we have way more back episodes than we can bear to cut ’n’ paste on over here. But you can listen to every last one of them and read the show notes on our Spreaker page at https://www.spreaker.com/show/parenting-roundabout. If the thought of sifting through 1,070 episodes is a little daunting, here are some ways to narrow it down a little, by date and by topic.
