An article titled "Use These Positive Phrases to Avoid Conflict With Your Kids" got us talking about how positive parenting is one of those "sounds great in theory" ideas that is not exactly easy to implement in the real world, with real kids and real parents.

On Speed-Round Sunday, we share a mini episode from our past for your weekend listening pleasure.
Is there a product you took for granted that you can't find anymore? Nicole's searching for a remove-dog-hair-from-upholstery item, and Terri is ordering off-brand zinc oxide from Amazon, all because stores do not seem to be stocking our faves.
On Second-Listen Saturday, we share moments from past episodes for your weekend listening pleasure.
It's no surprise that our kids' experiences are a lot less free-range than our own were. But we did find at least one common thread. Want more? Listen to the rest of this July 2018 episode.
On this week’s Roundabout Roundup: Terri suggests you check out Breaking Bobby Bones, debuting on the National Geographic channel on May 31 and then airing on Sunday evenings. Nicole's enjoying her (probably cheugy) favorite Starbucks treat, the Pink Drink. And Catherine's cruising way past cheugy to great-grandpa style with her Claeys hard candies (root beer flavor, please).
Thanks as always to Jon Morin for our fun in-and-out music, which you hear on every episode.
Inspired by a conversation on the Bobby Bones Show podcast, we ask: What secret handshake, password, or only-they-would-know identifiers does your family use just in case someone gets replaced by a cyborg and you need to expose the impostor?
We wade into, and complain about, the debate over who, or what, is "cheugy." We like Instagram and Ugg boots but could care less about chevrons, decorative wooden signs, and Harry Potter merch (in fact one of us actively can't stand Harry Potter), so we might be safe!
On this week's entertainment-themed Round 2, we watched the second half of Girls5Eva (episodes 5-8), which was just as silly as part 1. If you haven't checked out this joke machine yet, do yourself a favor and cue it up.
We also took a sidelong glance at Neptune, California, with three episodes of the Veronica Mars Investigations podcast: Season 4 Pitches, The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, and Mr. Kiss and Tell. What we learned: It's nice when someone else watches or reads for you and just gives you a nice tidy summary! Mentioned: The Veronica-in-the-FBI pitch that thankfully failed to win over TV execs. Next: In spite of ourselves, we're jumping in to season 4 with episode 1, "Spring Break Forever," and the accompanying VMI podcast episode. We'll also watch the multiple Academy Award-winning movie Nomadland.
We are definitely not judging the kinds of families who pose for beautiful professional photos or make t-shirt quilts or go all out to support their kids' sports teams or always take a fun family vacation. We just are not those kinds of families.

With some school districts considering ditching the valedictorian designation due to out-of-control competitiveness, we propose some other efforts we'd like to see honored.

We name the tunes that put little ones to sleep, perk up a road trip—check out Terri's creative strategy!—and, of course, annoy our kids profoundly. Want more? Listen to the rest of this July 2018 episode. |
