On this week's entertainment-themed Round 2: World of Dance returned from an unexplained hiatus with another round of duels, along with the redemption round for the upper division. We're sorry to see Styles and Emma go, because... wow. Next: Duels continue with the junior division.
On Veronica Mars, "Blast from the Past" proved to be an unpleasant episode, because everyone was sad and Jackie played an elaborate and cruel prank on Veronica. Next: The unpleasantly titled "Rat Saw God." Mentioned: Veronica Mars Investigations' special "Pride and Prejudice" episode.

The disruptions of the global pandemic mean making tough decisions about work and school with ever-changing information. It's hard for adults, and much, much harder for teens and their parents.
On Speed-Round Sunday, we share a mini episode from our past for your weekend listening pleasure.
We recall some cruises we have experienced, both life-changing and nausea-inducing, and wonder if we'd still enjoy them as much today.
On Second-Listen Saturday, we share some fun moments from past episodes for your weekend listening pleasure.
We are very live-and-let-live when it comes to kids and technology, but we wonder whether teens need to have better manners when it comes to their phones. (Mentioned: A Round 2 in which a mother-son argument is resolved via text.) Want more? Listen to the rest of this June 2017 episode.
On this week’s Roundabout Roundup: Terri recommends Despair.com for a daily dose of snark, and Nicole's Instagram Minute also brings some gentle sarcasm with @subparparks. Catherine suggests the not-snarky, but fascinating novel Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan.
Thanks as always to Jon Morin for our fun in-and-out music, which you hear on every episode.
A month from now, Nicole's nest will be empty (at least of children; the pets are all staying). She's obsessing about her next steps, and we're here to enable that fretting.
After watching a video on the 10 most important things to simplify, we share our complaints with the minimalist life. You'll never catch us keeping it simple, thanks to things like "kids" and "jobs" and "spouses."
On this week's entertainment-themed Round 2, we promised you the second round of World of Dance duels, but it turns out they're airing tonight, July 14, so we'll discuss them next week. Instead, we talked about The Heir Affair, a sequel to The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan of Go Fug Yourself (which we discussed in 2017). The new book is a delightful continuation of the stories and characters we'd so enjoyed in round 1. Recommended!
We can't really recommend the episode of Veronica Mars we watched, titled "Green-Eyed Monster" and guest-starring Laura Bell Bundy as a truly annoying client of Mars Investigations. She hired Veronica to investigate her fiance, but he's the one who dodged a bullet. Next: Season 2 episode 5, "Blast from the Past."
Using smartphones even in the presence of our children may be smarter than we think, or at least not the "OMG PANIC" we have been led to believe. A recent study concluded that "smartphones play multiple roles in family life, and when not heavily impacting on family time, may have a positive role in parenting." In other words, play that game or send that text. Your kid's gonna be okay. (Also mentioned: Our recent discussion on childproofing for big kids.)
On Speed-Round Sunday, we share a mini episode from our past for your weekend listening pleasure.
Following up on our recent crisis chat, which included an account of Nicole's son's scary car crash, we talk about some other car accidents in our lives, including an impressively survivable off-a-cliff plummet and a welcoming back-into at the local coffee drive-through. |
